Winter Finches Workshop External Community Event

1:00 PM| Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

If you are a beginning birder, or you just want to brush up on your skills, join us for a birding ID workshop.
The Winter Finches Workshop will include insights into the identification of all Ontario finches, how best to attract finches to your backyard (feeders/feed), a look into yearly and lifetime cycles that finches follow, and an interpretive hike to observe finches.

How well do you know your finches? Can you ID these species? You will be able to after this workshop!


Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
When: Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 1-4pm
How much: $35.00 per person.
Price includes admission to our interpretive centre and trails for day following the workshop to go out and utilize your new found skills at birding.
Who: All ages are welcome to attend. Youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.

Birding can happen in all weather! Please dress appropriately for an outdoor portion of the workshop.

Stone Carving External Community Event

This is an introductory class for carving alabaster & soapstone. Participants will breathe life into soapstone or alabaster, and learn how to use tools and techniques to sculpt a small pendant - or sculpture - inspired by the biodiversity of Wye Marsh. Owl Prowl Hike at Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre External Community Event

6:30 PM| Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, 16160 Hwy 12, Midland

Join us for an evening hike as we learn about, and try to spot, some of the animals who call Wye Marsh home!

Join your host Mak Soden, Wye Marsh's Lead Interpreter, on a nocturnal hike of our trails to explore great year round habitat in hopes of catching a glimpse or more likely a call or two of one of our local nocturnal raptors.

~ Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
~ When: Saturday, November 5 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm
~ How much: $20.00 per person
~ Who: All ages are welcome to attend. Youth under 13 must be accompanied by an adult.
~ What to bring: Flashlight, sturdy footwear (with ice treads if possible), walking stick, layered clothing, camera (for photos with a special invited mystery guest). This experience will be entirely outdoors, so please dress for the weather!

A Victorian Christmas Gift & Craft Show External Community Event

10:00 AM| North Simcoe Sports & Recreation Centre, 527 Len Self Blvd, Midland

There will be 22 amazing local vendors selling crafts and gifts ranging from stained glass, woodwork, pottery, jewelry and much more! There will also be raffles and refreshments, with all event proceeds helping animals in need in our community.

Tickets: $5 in advance, $6 at the door. Tickets are available at The Pebble Tree, The Catnip Dispensary and The Midland & DIstrict Animal Centre.

Maple Syrup Workshop External Community Event

1:30 PM| Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, 16160 Hw 12, Midland

From sap to sweetwater to syrup, learn the process of making maple syrup with the Wye Marsh Sap Suckers!

Plan to attend this introductory workshop on making Maple Syrup. Learn the history and how to tap a sugar maple tree and general science of producing syrup from tree sap. The in-house presentation will provide you with techniques, tips and best practices and will finish off with a tour of the Wye Marsh Sugar Shack and maple trees. And perhaps you will get to enjoy a taste of the sweet nectar itself!

~ Whether you desire to tap a few trees in your yard or have a small sugar bush, you will know what is necessary to make quality maple syrup safely.
~ Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre
~ When: Saturday, November 12, 2022 from 1:30pm - 4:00pm
~ How much: $12.00.
~ Who: Ages 12+.
