Bayside Summer Soiree Town Organized Event

The Bayside Summer Soiree is a weekly outdoor event set upon the beautiful shores of Georgian Bay in Penetanguishene.  The Bayside Summer Soiree is a great way to spend your Friday nights, listening to live music, entertainment, outdoor movies and much more all summer long from June to September!

Rotary Champlain Wendat Park Walking Tour Town Organized Event

10:30 AM| Tour will start at the Curling Club parking lot (8 Owen Street)

Take a walk in the park with the Penetanguishene Museum on August 9th and learn about the Indigenous and Franco-Ontarian history of our area. Tour will meet at 10:30 am in the Curling Club parking lot (8 Owen St.). Tickets are $7 per person. Children 12 and under are free but must preregister. This is an outdoor event so please dress accordingly.

Downtown Penetanguishene Historical Walking Tour Town Organized Event

10:30 AM| Tour will start at the Curling Club parking lot (8 Owen Street)

Take a walk downtown Penetanguishene and learn about the history of local homes and businesses on August 11th. Tour will start at 10:30 am at the Curling Club parking lot (8 Owen St.) Tickets are $7 per person. Children 12 and under are free but must also preregister. This is an outdoor event so please dress accordingly.

Marsh by Meteor Stargazing Event External Community Event

11:00 AM| Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, 16160 Hwy12, PO Box 100

Join us at Wye Marsh for stargazing, counting comets, and learning all about astronomy during the Perseid Meteor Shower! The Perseid Meteor Shower is known for its stunning fireballs and bright meteors. Many burn intensively with bright, persistent trails! Enjoy a memorable night on the boardwalk under a blanket of stars and watch the annual meteor shower erupt during this time of maximum meteor activity. Learn the moon, planets, constellations, star clusters and nebula, and then count shooting stars racing across the Earth’s atmosphere at the peak of the Perseid Meteor Shower! Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre When: Friday, August 12, 2022 (Rain Date is Saturday, August 13, 2022) from 11:00pm- 2:00am. How much: $55.00 per participant. Who: Ages 13+. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. What to bring: Please bring your portable chair and binoculars, and pick your spot on the boardwalk. Amphibian BioBlitz & Workshop External Community Event

10:00 AM| Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre

Frogs, skinks and salamanders - learn all about Ontario's amphibians! This workshop is run by well-known environmentalist Josh Feltham. It is designed to teach participants about amphibian ID, ecology, and then get out and put their skills into practice during a 1.5 amphibian BioBlitz hike at Wye Marsh. What to expect at this workshop: 1 hour – ID and ecology of Ontario Amphibians and Blitz Preparation (Indoor) The group will learn about amphibian ID and ecology so that they can plan an amphibian blitz. They will have access to maps that highlight different ecotypes and plan where they will go in an attempt to find as many amphibian species as they can in an hour and a half. 1.5 hours – Amphibian Blitz (Outdoors) The group will “execute their plan” and work to photo document as many amphibian species as possible. This can be done as a social media event if participants have Instagram or Facebook accounts. They can post/share images and information using a designated hash tag. ~ Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre ~ When: Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 10:00am - 12:30pm ~ How much: $25.00 per participant. All materials are provided. ~ Who: Ages 10+. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Pre-registration is not required but is encouraged. Invasive Phragmites Removal Event External Community Event

8:00 AM| Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre, 16160 Hwy12, PO Box 100

Help restore native wildlife habitat by removing invasive alien species at the Wye Marsh this summer. Join Wye Marsh's Stewardship to learn how to safely remove invasive plants from the area. Invasive Phragmites is a perennial grass that has been damaging ecosystems in Ontario for decades. This alien species takes over shorelines and affects the growth of native plans and the habitat and/ or food supply of many different species. Where: Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre's far access (directions and map to be provided upon registration) When: Saturday, August 20, 2022 - cohort times at 8:00am, 10:00am, 1:00pm, 3:00pm. Who: Anyone who would like to help. Youth under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. What to bring: Please bring your own spade, rubberized gloves, rubber boots, sunscreen, bug spray, hat and water. Participants can stay as pull for as long as they like. Give 30 minutes, an hour or more – and it WILL make a difference! Pre-registration is required by emailing hkeery@wyemarsh.com

Author Talk with Doug Fox Town Organized Event

Author Doug Fox is coming to Penetanguishene Museum to discuss his new book On Account of Darkness: The Summer Ontario Baseball Broke the Colour Barrier on Wednesday, August 31st from 2:00PM to 3:00PM.

On Account of Darkness is based on newspaper and first-hand accounts to recreate the dramatic 1934 Ontario Baseball Association Intermediate B Final between the Chatham Coloured All Stars and the Penetanguishene Rangers. Books will be available for $20. (cash or etransfer gratefully accepted)
