Our Health-"Caution: Negative News and Our Health" External Community Event

7:30 PM| 729 Portage Park Lane, Midland, Ontario

The relentless barrage of negative news, which has dramatically increased in recent years, has an impact on our thinking, behaviour and emotions. Trying to strike a balance between being informed by news media and not becoming overwhelmed is a daily challenge. Whether exposed actively or unintentionally, a constant consumption of negative news can elevate a person's stress level and trigger symptoms like anxiety, anger, discouragement and even sleeping disorders.

Our panel of experts from the fields of mental health care, communications and media will talk about how headlines and reports can affect our mental and physical health. they will share insight and tips on the ways we can choose to balance and filter what we see, hear and read on TV, radio, in print, on social media and other online platforms. We will be reminded there is still lots of positive and uplifting news available: there will be suggestions on how to access it, and we will explore ways to achieve a positive and optimistic outlook on life.

"Caution: Negative News and Our Health" will be held in person at the Midland Cultural Centre with free registration and will also be broadcast on Rogers TV throughout Simcoe County and online at 7:30 pm on Thursday, February 16, 2023. Email your advanced questions to: mcc_ourhealth@outlook.com
